Dare2Dance programme 2010

The Dare2Dance (D2D) 2010 programme is well under way now, with the dates being finalised for all 18 empowerment days taking place across London, plus the mini festivals and the final D2D competition.

Camden and Islington were chosen as the central London boroughs that will focus on the D2D activity for this year, after both submitting very strong cases as to why they have the resources and commitment to deliver the project locally through a partnership between the Council, School Sport Partnership and other relevant partners.

The other selected boroughs across London are; Barking & Dagenham, Newham, Greenwich, Croydon, Enfield, Brent and Haringey.

This year’s D2D programme will include the following;

  • Empowerment days (March-May) – each selected borough will host 2 empowerment days where the girls will be given the opportunity to try out various dance classes and learn a routine.
  • Ongoing local street dance programme (April-July) – each borough will then run an 8-10 week programme of local dance classes, giving girls the opportunity to continue with the dance classes.
  • D2D sub-regional mini festivals (May-July) – after the 8-10 week programme, each of the 5 sub-regions will host a mini festival, giving girls who have previously been engaged in the programme, as well as other local groups the opportunity to show case their routines and compete against each other.
  • Dare2Dance competition – (17th July) - This is the regional competition and performance opportunity through which all D2D inspired groups can perform at the South Bank Centre. The winning 6 groups which are selected by a panel of expert judges will then enter the gifted & talented programme.
  • Gifted &Talented (August-December) The project will support each of the 6 winning girls groups to be mentored by an existing Hip Hop company, providing all the rehearsal space and support. The groups will then develop a new performance for the b.supreme festival (October) at which the overall winning D2D group for the year will be selected. Through the mentoring process many of the groups become part of the established dance company. Groups will also be supported to take advantage of other performance platforms.
